FoodStorm E-commerce Storefront is Now More Accessible!

FoodStorm E-commerce Storefront is Now More Accessible!

According to the WHO in 2023, an estimated 1.3 billion people will experience significant disability. This represents 16% of the world’s population, or 1 in 6 of us. And according to AbilityNet, over 90% of websites are inaccessible to people with disabilities who rely on assistive technology. Some of the most common issues can include:

  • Problematic color contrasts
  • A lack of image descriptions
  • A lack of screen-reader/keyboard support
  • No zoom support
  • No announcements on events that happen in a browser (i.e. “item added to cart”)

The FoodStorm team has been working to address many of these obstacles to help achieve accessibility conformance for the Storefront Builder that our customers use to sell their products to end customers.

What does this accessibility conformance mean?

This conformance will mean for customers using our Storefront Builder, the base template will be ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) and WCAG 2.0 AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) compliant. Some of the key accessibility features now available include:

  • Screen-reader support, as well as voice-to-text if using captions
  • Quickly navigate to core content using a standardized "Skip to main content" button
  • Full webpage control through keyboard only
  • Appropriate color contrast

This assessment was conducted by a 3rd party organization on our default template for the Storefront Builder. Please note that if FoodStorm customers choose to customize their FoodStorm e-commerce website, this could affect the above accessibility features for the end user.
